South Korea: The Re-Return

Back from a long hiatus, I present to you photos from my third trip to South Korea. This trip lasted only two weeks, my shortest stay by far. I spent my time wandering the streets of Seoul, visiting my favorite markets, visiting friends, eating delicious food, and drinking amazing tea and coffee. Strange, how this place no longer feels like a foreign country. It really is my second home.

Portrait of an Artist's Gallery

I was recently asked by a dear friend and fantastic artist to document her gallery exhibition at the Firefish Gallery in Charlottesville, Virginia. Cristina Rutkowski paints celestial imagery on glass and then mounts the work in front of a mirror. The result is an image with such incredible depth that is realized as you look at, through, and beyond the stars. You end up looking back at the real world with a better view of yourself than you ever thought possible.

Since this work is based on reflection, isolating the images on their own was a difficult task. Instead of masking the reflections, I decided to embrace them and to re-create as best I could what the viewer would see. Click on the thumbnails for a larger view.
